More SOCOM ramblings Tim

File Under: Games -> PlayStation 2

I've had the SOCOM demo in my possession for just over twenty-four hours now, and at least six of those hours have been spent playing its one level over and over and over again. I have mastered virtually every nuance the level contains, and yet, I keep playing it... This game is just that good. There's nothing quite like circling around a building and taking out guards from 100 yards away through the windows with a sniper rifle, leaving your team free to move in with no opposition whatsoever. Damn, this is fun.

Halo Online second impressions... Tim

File Under: Games -> Xbox

Okay, so my impressions of playing Halo online weren't so hot, as you can see from what I said a couple posts down. Well, after playing the game online with a friend of mine, and with very little lag, my opinion of the game has improved quite a bit.

There's no way that it will ever replace Unreal Tournament on my PC as my favorite online game, but still... It's good fun when you're playing with someone who actually respects you and gives you a good challenge. Honestly, I can't see myself playing it much after SOCOM on the PS2 comes out, though.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that if you have played Halo online and, like me, weren't impressed, that you should line up a game with someone you know. As with any other online game, it makes a world of difference.

SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Tim

File Under: Games -> PlayStation 2 -> Quickview

Gee, it's been a while since I've posted anything here, eh? Yeah, well... That shit happens. I've told you all not to expect lots and lots of updates.

Anyway, I was inspired to post something about SOCOM: US Navy SEALs for the PlayStation 2 after getting the demo in the mail today, and I'll be damned if this isn't one of the best shooters I've ever played. Frankly, I'm not so fond of deathmatch-style games, so SOCOM is right up my alley with its emphasis on team strategy and stealth.

My first impression was that this game is hard as hell... Though now that I think about it, I'm not so sure that it's so hard, but rather I just haven't gotten into the right mindset for it yet. Though I love the stealth aspect of the game, (NOTHING can separate me from my silenced sniper rifle, dammit!) I'll occasionally let my guard down and run right into trouble - and since this game is so realistic in the fact that one or two shots will kill you, this usually leads to problems (Read: Me dying a shameful death at the hands of the enemy). I just need to learn to concentrate the entire time and not make stupid mistakes. This game takes a LOT more thinking than the likes of Halo or Unreal Tournament. And that, my friends, is a damn good thing.

Anyway, I wasn't so sure that I'd be picking this game up at launch, since it'd be $60, plus $40 for the network adapter just to play the game online, but after playing the demo, I'm sold. Frankly, I can't wait. Too bad it's coming out the day after Mario Sunshine! WHICH WILL I PLAY!??! "Both" sounds good to me.
